TIME TO NOMINATE NEW STUDENT REPRESENTATIVESIt will soon be time to elect new members to the Student Section Co-ordinating Committee (CC).What is the Student Section CC? The Vas-Cog Society Students Section has its own co-ordinating committee that works behind the scenes during the two years leading up to the bi-annual congress. The Student Section CC mirrors the structure of the main VAS-COG co-ordinating committee (i.e. the parent body). The primary role of the Student Section CC is to advise the VAS-COG Society regarding matters of importance for young researchers. New members are elected to the committee every two years. The Coordinating Committee is made up of: Three elected positions 1. A Chair who heads the Student Section CC, and represents the student members at meetings of the parent VAS-COG Executive Committee; 2. A programme committee representative who represents the student section at the parent VAS-COG programme committee meetings, and assists with planning the congress, program format and content; and 3. A scientific committee representative who represents the student section at the parent VAS-COG scientific committee meetings, and assists in assessing the abstract submissions. Two non-elected positions 4. A secretary who supports the Student Section CC by maintaining mailing lists, meeting records, and performing other administrative duties; and 5. A webmaster who maintains the student website. Other informal positions Anyone else who wishes to contribute to the CC will be welcomed. Where possible, they will be linked in with one of the existing positions, and will work closely with the representative in that position. There will be a meeting at the Congress for all Student Section members (including new members who sign up during the congress) during the lunch break on Wednesday the 11th of July. Current CC representatives will explain a bit more about their activities over the last two years, and answer questions about their experiences on the CC. How do I nominate for the Student Section CC? To nominate yourself for one of the Student Section CC positions, you must be a student and a current member of the VAS-COG society. You can nominate yourself before July the 10th by emailing Anne Börjesson-Hanson (Anne.Borjesson@neuro.gu.se). You will need to specify whether you are interested in one of the elected positions or one of the other positions. Additional nominations will be taken at the student meeting on Wednesday 11th of July. When will the vote be held? On Thursday the 12th of July, a second student meeting will be held, and a vote will be taken to decide on the three elected positions. Depending on the number of nominees, it is anticipated that there will be a discussion and the other positions filled according to consensus. Can I still nominate and vote if I am not attending the VAS-COG Congress? You may still nominate yourself even if you are not able to attend the VAS-COG Congress, just email Anne before July the 10th. If you are not attending the congress, you may also vote via email before July the 10th. Anne will post a list of the candidates who have nominated via email approximately one week prior to the meeting. Participation on the Student Section CC is an excellent way to network with other students and both junior and senior investigators around the world. We are looking forward to welcoming new members, and we are hoping for a mix of people from different disciplines and geographical regions. So, please do not hesitate to nominate yourself or others! Kind Regards Student Section CC |
