Dr Scheltens is Professor of Cognitive Neurology and Director of the Alzheimer Center at the Vrije Universiteit Medical Center in Amsterdam. His main clinical and research interests are Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging and biomarkers.
Dr Scheltens is an active member of several societies including the Dutch Society for Neurology, the International Psychogeriatric Association, the American Academy of Neurology, the Alzheimer Imaging Consortium, the European Alzheimer’s Disease Consortium and the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology. He is associate editor of the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, book review editor of Alzheimer Disease and Associated Disorders as well as member of the editorial boards of Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders, Journal of NeuroImaging and International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, and acts as an ad hoc reviewer of scientific articles for, amongst others, The Lancet; Stroke; Journal of Neurology, Neurology, Annals of Neurology and Science. Dr Scheltens is also the founder and editor-in-chief of the book series Current Issues in Neurodegenerative Disorders. Recently he was appointed as Treasurer of the International Society for Vascular Behavioural and Cognitive Disorders (Vas-Cog) and as associate editor of the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.
